If you have been tracking the upcoming release as closely many of us, you will be thrilled to hear that the Card Runners podcast just dropped their inaugural episode. Dan from Main Deck and Kell from Red Zone Rogue are taking the helm to cover everything related to the game. Before we dive into the details, keep in mind that this is just my high-level summary of the highlights because I feel like quality content needs more attention in this very sloppy world. You really should tune into the full episode to catch all their background stories and discussions.

They spend the first part of the show talking about their history in the hobby and their shared love for the broader universe, touching on both the 2077 video game and the Edgerunners anime. It is refreshing to hear from hosts who genuinely understand the mechanics and the lore we are all here for. Many content creators, especially in the TCG space, have this tendency to relate cards to 'functions'. A card serves this function and this set of cards deal with this type of function. Where as, so far, Cyberpunk seems to be stepping away from that and a bit more into flavor.

They also kicked off a recurring segment called "Make a Choice." It is a fun concept where they pose a scenario to themselves and the listeners. Naturally, episode one focused heavily on the current Kickstarter campaign. They both discussed their support for the project and broke down the different backing tiers they selected to help get the game into our hands.

The best part of the episode was hearing them articulate exactly why Cyberpunk has so much potential. They highlighted the a (seemingly) quality gameplay loop and praised the development team at Weird Co. Like a lot of us, Dan and Kell are incredibly optimistic about the organized play structure. They see a bright future for the competitive scene, which is exactly what a new card game needs to survive.

Card Runners is set to be a weekly drop. Moving forward, they plan to analyze game mechanics, dive deep into the lore, and answer listener questions through a regular mailbag segment. Go give the full episode a listen and get ready for the launch.

If you have a podcast, give me a shout! I'd love to know about it!
